Digital cameras, holiday packages, tents, eskys, Nintendos, iPods and hair straighteners are some of the most popular pre-Christmas searches this year according to GetPrice

Digital cameras, holiday packages, tents, eskys, Nintendos, iPods and hair straighteners are some of the most popular pre-Christmas searches this year according to GetPrice Australia’s leading comparison shopping site, www.getprice.com.au, has revealed some clues about what could be under Australian Christmas trees this year.

Announcing GetPrice’s November shopping index, GetPrice CEO, Chris Hitchen, said the most popular pre-Christmas searches were holiday packages, seats and chairs, digital cameras, tents, eskys, Nintendos, iPods and GHD hair straighteners.

He also said online Christmas shopping activity was booming with GetPrice traffic up 45 percent since October.

GetPrice enjoyed 1.6 million unique visitors in November according to Google Analytics - up 180 percent compared with the same time last year.

“Australians seem to be furiously researching and shopping online in order to secure the best deals on Christmas gifts,” he said.

“Bargain hunting has become a mainstream activity these days.

“And it looks as though Australians are keen on camping trips this year with tents, eskys, seats, chairs and holiday packages among the most popular searches.”

Searches for “Nintendo” were up 580 percent since October while searches for “GHD hair straighteners” were up a whopping 800 percent.

“It looks like there could be a lot of straight hair in 2009,” Mr Hitchen said.
