Summer’s here and so are the bargains: GetPrice’s November shopping index

GetPrice’s November index logs a rise in traffic; finds shoppers are keen to get outside and enjoy summer – at the best price

People are keen to get outside and look good this summer if GetPrice.com.au’s November shopping index is anything to go by.

GetPrice chief executive officer, Chris Hitchen, said the most popular searches during the past month were women’s swimwear, trampolines, Weber BBQs, Gucci sunglasses and GHD beauty products.

Also popular were bicycles, skin care products, vitamins and nutritional supplements.

“A clear theme has emerged and that is people want to look good, feel healthy and get outside to enjoy the summer months ahead,” Mr Hitchen said.

“Australians of all age groups are getting on board comparison shopping – a big mover this month has been Pain Away arthritis cream, meaning senior Australians are also shopping online this summer.”

Price envy

Will you be suffering from price envy this month?

Did you pay too much for any of these items?

The biggest price differences this month:

  • Cacharel Promesse 100ml EDT women’s perfume – prices ranged between $48.95 and $131, a difference of $82 (168 percent)
  • NEC LCD 46 inch television – prices ranged between $2,350 and $3,299, a difference of $949 (40 percent)
  • Canon IXUS Digital Camera – prices ranged between $289 and $577, a difference of $288 (100 percent)
  • Asus F8VR Laptop – prices ranged between $1,598 and $1,896, a difference of $298 (19 percent)

Curly hair fashionable in Melbourne, BBQs more popular in Sydney

Searches for GHD hair straighteners and BBQs were much higher in Sydney than in Melbourne while KitchenAid kitchenware and Seafolly women’s swimwear took the lead in Melbourne.

Overall, Victorians are the most enthusiastic GetPrice users per capita, closely followed by Queenslanders in second place while Northern Territorians and Western Australians are tied in third place.

Dramatic increase in site traffic

Mr Hitchen said GetPrice, Australia’s leading independent comparison shopping site, had logged a dramatic increase in traffic compared with the same time last year. Traffic was up 195 percent on last year and had risen 20 percent during the past month alone.

In October, GetPrice received more than 1.4 million unique visitors, according to Google Analytics - a record number of monthly visits to GetPrice.
